Copilot: the built-in option
Microsoft 365 Copilot summarises threads, drafts from a prompt and helps fill in meeting invites, all inside Outlook. It's the natural choice if your organisation already runs on Microsoft 365, because it can also draw on your files and Teams. It drafts rather than acts: you review and send. For businesses it's a paid add-on to an eligible Microsoft 365 Business plan.
Fyxer and Superhuman Mail: inside your inbox
Fyxer connects to your Outlook inbox, labels your email and drafts replies in your tone; its FAQ is clear that it never sends. Superhuman Mail replaces the Outlook interface with a faster email app with AI built in. Both need access to your whole mailbox, and both leave the sending to you.
Emily: an assistant you delegate to
Emily works differently. She has her own address; you email her from Outlook with an instruction, and she does it - emails the other person, agrees a meeting time and sends the invite, or chases until someone replies. She connects to your Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com calendar, not your mailbox, and can add Teams links on work and school accounts.
What she doesn't do: sort your inbox or draft replies to everything that arrives. If that's what you need, one of the options above is a better fit.
One that doesn't work with Outlook
Shortwave, a popular AI email app, supports Gmail and Google Workspace only. Its documentation says Microsoft 365 and Exchange accounts aren't supported.

What is the best AI email assistant for Outlook?
It depends on the job. Copilot is best for AI inside Outlook and Microsoft 365. Fyxer is built for inbox triage and drafts. Superhuman Mail is a faster email app. Emily is best if you want an assistant to book meetings and chase people for you.
Do any Outlook AI assistants send emails for you?
Of the ones on this page, only Emily sends on your behalf, as your assistant. Copilot and Fyxer draft for you to send, and we couldn't confirm that Superhuman Mail sends on its own.
Is there an AI assistant for Outlook that doesn't read my inbox?
