Did you just text Emily and get a link to this page?
That means the number you texted from isn't linked to an Emily account yet. Emily only acts on texts from numbers that have been verified as belonging to an account holder, so your message was not read or stored - it simply can't reach her until the number is linked. Follow the steps below and text again.
Setting it up
Open Text Emily in Settings
Open Settings on your Emily dashboard and choose Text Emily.
Enter your UK mobile number
Emily texts you a 6-digit code.
Enter the code
Your number is now linked. Nothing is stored until this step.
Add Emily to your contacts
Tap Add Emily to contacts (in Settings, or on your dashboard home) to save her with her photo, number and your Emily email address. Then text her whatever you'd ask by email.
One number per account. If you're part of an organisation on Emily, texting is on for everyone unless your admin has switched it off - if the option isn't there, ask them.
What you can ask by text
Anything Emily does by email or in chat, in the same words. For example:
- “Find me 30 minutes with Sam next week”
- “Remind me at 4 to call the dentist”
- “What's on my calendar tomorrow?”
- “Email Priya and say I'm running ten minutes late”
- “Draft a birthday message for Tom”
A text from your linked number carries the same authority as an email from you: Emily will schedule, draft, send and cancel on your say-so, and if she needs to check something first she asks by text and you reply by text.
Replies, and when they're too long for a text
Emily's texts run to about 450 characters - three linked texts, which your phone shows as one message. When a reply is longer than that - a draft, a list of options, anything with a table - she texts you a brief summary and says “I've sent the full reply to your email”, and the complete reply lands in your inbox at the same time. The whole conversation, texts included, is also in the Chat page of your dashboard, labelled Text.
Emily can't read pictures or attachments sent by text yet - send those to her email address instead.
What it costs
Texting is included in your trial. After that it's the Text Emily add-on: £5 a month for up to 60 texts from Emily (a longer reply of two or three linked texts counts as two or three). The allowance runs with your billing cycle, not the calendar month, and resets when your subscription renews. The charge starts when you verify a mobile number, not when you add the add-on - until a number is linked, there's nothing to pay. Add or remove it from Settings at any time. Removing it, unlinking your number or texting STOP stops texting straight away - the number comes off your account there and then - while the CHARGE runs to the end of the cycle you've already paid for, and nothing is charged after that. Verify a number again before that date and texting simply carries on, with nothing extra to pay for that cycle. Your own texts to her are free (standard network charges from your provider may apply). If you use all 60 in a cycle, Emily carries on answering by email and the dashboard until the allowance resets - nothing is lost.
The add-on pays for the channel, not the work: anything Emily does from a text uses your plan's credits exactly as it would by email or chat.
Stopping
Text STOP to Emily and the number is removed from your account straight away: she won't text it again, and on a personal plan the texting add-on ends with the cycle you've paid for, so nothing more is charged. To text her again later, reply START (your network keeps its own block until you do) and then link the number again in Settings. You can also unlink the number in Settings at any time. Privacy
Your linked number is stored on your account; verification codes expire within ten minutes. Texts to and from Emily are kept with your chat history, and messages are carried by Twilio on our behalf. Texts from unlinked numbers are not read or stored. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
