Adding Emily to your Microsoft account
Prerequisites: an Emily account (start a free trial at emily.whiterabbitfoundry.com) and a Microsoft account with a calendar. Both kinds work:
- Work or school - Microsoft 365 or Exchange Online. If your organisation restricts third-party apps, an administrator may need to approve the connection.
- Personal - an outlook.com, hotmail.com or live.com account.
- Open Emily's Calendars & scheduling settings - you will be asked to sign in first if you are not already.
- Select Microsoft, then choose Work or school or Personal. This matters, because Microsoft only offers Teams meeting links on work and school accounts, so Emily asks for different permissions in each case.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account and review the permissions Microsoft lists.
- Select Accept.
- Your Microsoft account email appears in Emily's settings, confirming the connection.
- If you connect more than one calendar, choose which is your primary one, and optionally set Teams as your default meeting provider.

Using Emily with Microsoft
Ask Emily in plain English, in the dashboard chat or by email. Each feature and its prerequisites:
| Feature | What to say | Prerequisites |
|---|---|---|
| Arrange a meeting with someone | "Find 30 minutes with alex@example.com next week" | Microsoft connected |
| See your day or week | "What's on this week?" | Microsoft connected |
| Block time out | "Block Friday afternoon for focus time" | Microsoft connected |
| Add a Teams link to a meeting | "Book a call with Sam on Thursday on Teams" | A work or school account. On a personal account, use Zoom or a link Emily hosts |
| Move or cancel a meeting | "Move my 3pm tomorrow to 4pm" | Microsoft connected |
| Mirror busy time to another calendar | "Keep my work calendar in sync with my personal one" | Two calendars connected |
Permissions used: Calendars.ReadWrite to read your availability and create, update or cancel the events you ask for, and OnlineMeetings.ReadWrite to generate Teams links. offline_access keeps the connection working without asking you to sign in repeatedly, and openid, email, profile show which account is connected. If you choose the read-only option, Emily requests Calendars.Read instead and will suggest times for you to book yourself. Emily does not request access to your mailbox, contacts, files or Teams messages.
On a personal account (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com) Emily does not request OnlineMeetings.ReadWrite, because Microsoft provides Teams meeting creation on work and school accounts only. Everything on the calendar works exactly the same. For a video link, connect Zoom or ask Emily for a link she hosts, and she will use that instead. If you ask specifically for Teams on a personal account, Emily will tell you rather than book a meeting with no link.
When Emily moves a meeting she updates the existing event in place, so attendees, the invitation and any meeting link are preserved and Microsoft notifies your guests.
Removing Emily from your Microsoft account
You can remove the connection from either side, and both fully revoke access:
- From Emily: Settings → Calendars & scheduling → Disconnect beside your Microsoft account.
- From Microsoft: sign in at myapps.microsoft.com, or account.live.com for a personal account, and revoke access for Emily.
What happens when you disconnect:
- Emily's access to your calendar ends immediately.
- Your stored access and refresh tokens are deleted from our systems.
- Emily can no longer see your availability or create events. Asking her to arrange a meeting will prompt you to reconnect.
- Events Emily already created remain in your calendar and invitations already sent keep working. Delete them in Outlook if you no longer want them.
- Teams links already created continue to work, because they belong to your Microsoft account rather than to Emily.
- Any calendar mirroring you set up stops. Copies already written to the other calendar remain until you remove them.
- We keep no copy of your calendar contents after disconnection.
To delete your Emily account and all associated data, email Emily "delete my account", or contact help@emily-wrf.com.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Resolution |
|---|---|
| "Approval required" on the Microsoft sign-in screen | Your organisation restricts third-party apps. Ask your IT administrator to approve Emily, then connect again. |
| No account shown after signing in | Refresh Settings → Calendars & scheduling. If it persists, disconnect and reconnect. |
| Emily says she cannot see your calendar | The connection may have been revoked in Microsoft, or a password change ended the session. Reconnect from Settings. |
| No Teams link on a meeting | Teams links need a work or school account and the full connection rather than the read-only option. On a personal account, connect Zoom or use a link Emily hosts. |
| Events appear at the wrong time | Check your timezone in Emily. Tell her "set my timezone to London" or update it in Settings. |
| Can't sign in | Email help@emily-wrf.com and we will respond promptly. |
